UNDINE KITING ADVENTURES

There is a place where the wind blows uninterrupted and picks up any available wind, usually 10-15 knots more than in shore, offers a perfect sandy beach to launch your kite or to watch all the action, crystal clear water, no crowds and great water conditions for kiteboarding.

Welcome to Undine Cay………read more below pic.

UNDINE-1.gif Last month we took a few lucky kiter surfers to this beautiful isolated sand bar shaped by the wind. Its lies approximately 24 miles from Port Douglas so after a fast boat ride we were stoked to see that the wind blowing steady 20knots
It was a race to get setup and hit the water, with some riders taking the chance to practise their wake style moves in the flat water created behind the cay, while others were making the most out of the waves, creating perfect ramps for some big freestyle jumps, while some circumnavigated the cay a few times till they found their slice of kiters paradise. With only 8 kiters out on the water there was plenty of ocean for everyone.
For the advanced riders we offered them free coaching, utilizing our headzone radio coaching helmets and video camera, making going to the next level or move easy.
For first timers there is always a chance to get into the action with WindSwell Crew on hand to offer free lessons.
Test rides and demos on the latest kites were also available with some crew keen as to upgrade after riding some of the 09 gear.
With Crystal clear water all around the snorkeling is awesome right off the beach and out along the wall towards the main vessel
Stand up paddle boards are also on hand for those interested in catching a few waves or exploring further up the reef often seeing rays or turtles.
During lunch we discussed plans for a possible down winder to the next Cay (Mackay) a few miles north. It took little convincing among the crew so we made wake.
The freedom of not having to go up wind is awesome with the crew curving the swells toeside to heelside and jumping huge with plenty of room to move.
Once arriving at Mackay Cay the sun was dropping over the range towards cape tribulation making for an awesome sunset. Making us think how good it would be to kite over there and stay the night at a nice resort. Maybe next time? But for now it was time to pack up and enjoy a snorkel or swim back to the boat. On board we were treated to afternoon tea and a cold drink for the trip home.
We even spotted some humpbacks on the way home. It was a good day kiting and at the reef it was great to do so many different water-sports and enjoy just hanging out on the cay between sessions.
Most of crew enjoyed and were keen to come on our next adventure stay tuned………..
